SUMMARY:18th April 2026 - Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge
DESCRIPTION:This is our big fundraising challenge for Spring 2026. \nOur charity exists because people step up and take on challenges that push them physically and mentally\, and in doing so\, help others when they need it most. Every challenge completed and every pound raised directly supports people who cannot afford to wait. \nWe are currently funding individuals to receive six fully funded therapy sessions at a point of crisis\, where waiting any longer on NHS waiting lists is not an option. These sessions provide immediate\, professional support at a critical time\, when delays can have serious consequences. \nFor this challenge\, we are taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks: Pen-y-Ghent (694 metres)\, Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres)\, usually completed in this order and within 12 hours. These iconic hills form part of the Pennine range in the Yorkshire Dales National Park\, creating a demanding and rewarding endurance challenge. \nTo support you along the way\, we will help set up your JustGiving fundraising page\, making it easy to share your challenge and get your fundraising started. \nBy signing up and fundraising\, you are turning physical effort into real\, immediate impact — helping us fund urgent support exactly when it’s needed most. \n📍 LogisticsStart / Finish: Yorkshire Dales National Car Park – Horton in Ribbleside (Pennine Way BD24 0HG)Meet Time: 7.00amGrade: HardDistance: 39.6 km (25 Miles)Total Ascent: 5\,360 ft / 1\,634 mEstimated Duration: Approx. 10-12 hours (Groups will be split into 3 or 4 depending on expected pace) \n🛏️ Accommodation Some of the team will arrive on Friday 17th April evening\, accommodation is to be booked at your own cost. Most people will stay over the evening of the 18th April also. All food and drinks will be at your own cost and responsibility.Start time will be 7am on the morning of the 18th April 2026.There will be a half way checkpoint with water provided and snacks available. \n🥾 Route OverviewThe Yorkshire Three Peaks is a serious mountain challenge\, linking Pen-y-Ghent\, Whernside and Ingleborough in one demanding circuit. Although commonly attempted within a 12-hour cutoff\, steep ascents\, rocky ground and cumulative fatigue make this a tough test of endurance and resilience. \nStarting and finishing in Horton-in-Ribblesdale\, the route opens with a relentless climb up Pen-y-Ghent\, including exposed rocky steps near the summit. After a sharp descent\, the trail rolls on to Ribblehead before the long\, steady grind up Whernside and a punishing descent into Chapel-le-Dale. The final ascent of Ingleborough is rugged and unforgiving\, with tired legs tested once more before the long descent back to the start. \nThis challenge demands strong fitness\, careful pacing and full mountain kit. Navigation skills are essential\, mobile signal is limited\, and weather conditions can change rapidly. Expect a long\, committing day where preparation\, decision-making and mental strength are just as important as physical ability. \n👉 All Trails Route Here \n👣 Who This Hike Is ForThis challenge is for experienced walkers and hikers who are comfortable with: \n\nLong-distance mountain days with significant ascent and descent\nSteep\, rocky and uneven terrain\, including short scrambling sections\nManaging fatigue\, pacing and fuelling over many hours\n\nIt suits those looking to test endurance and mental resilience\, whether as a personal challenge\, a stepping stone to longer mountain routes\, or preparation for ultra-distance hikes and events. \nIt is not aimed at beginners or those without prior hill experience\, unless undertaken with appropriate support\, training and planning. \n🍲 Post-HikeWell head to the Golden Lion Pub in Horton in Ribbleside for a well earned post hike drink and feed.
