A beautiful Peak District circular taking in classic limestone scenery, peaceful dales, and nature reserves. Starting from Monsal Head, this route drops into Wyedale before winding through Deep Dale Nature Reserve and Shacklow Wood. A varied and scenic walk offering rolling terrain, quiet valleys, and woodland sections throughout.

👣 Who This Hike Is For
Walkers with a moderate level of fitness
Those comfortable walking 8–9 miles at a steady, sociable group pace
People happy on mixed terrain including valleys, woodland paths, uneven ground, and gradual climbs
Anyone looking for a supportive group hike rather than a fast-paced or technical route
Those wanting to build confidence for longer Peak District walks

❌ This hike may not be suitable for:
Complete beginners with no prior walking experience
Anyone unable to walk for approximately 4–5 hours, even with breaks
Pushchairs or off-road buggies due to uneven terrain

❄️ Winter Conditions
Expect muddy and uneven paths in places
Limestone sections may be slippery when wet
Valley areas can be wet underfoot
Pace and timings will be adjusted depending on conditions

🍲 Post-Hike
Optional food and drinks locally. Food is available at Monsal Head Hotel and Bar, Suggest Booking if wanting food.

🎒 What to Bring
Sturdy hiking boots with good grip
Waterproof jacket and trousers
Warm layers, hat, gloves, buff
Day pack with water and snacks
Head torch (short daylight hours – bring just in case)
Walking poles (optional)

Dress appropriately for winter conditions
Dogs welcome but must be kept on leads near livestock
