A classic Peak District edge walk combining dramatic gritstone escarpments, sweeping Derwent Valley views, and quieter woodland and riverside sections. This varied circular takes in Froggatt, Curbar and Baslow Edges before looping through the Derwent Valley, offering big views, open moorland paths, and peaceful lower-level trails.

Traverse Baslow Edge with open moorland paths and panoramic viewpoints
Descend into the Derwent Valley

Complete the circular back to the start point

👣 Who This Hike Is For
Walkers with a moderate level of fitness

❌ This Hike May Not Be Suitable For
Complete beginners with no prior walking experience
Anyone unable to walk for 5–6 hours, even with breaks
Pushchairs or off-road buggies due to uneven and rocky terrain

❄️ Winter Conditions
Exposed edge sections can be windy and cold
Rocky gritstone paths may be slippery when wet or icy
Woodland and valley paths can be muddy
Pace and timings will be adjusted depending on conditions

🍲 Post-Hike
Optional food and drinks locally in Baslow or nearby villages. Pubs and cafés are available booking recommended if planning to eat.

🎒 What to Bring
Sturdy hiking boots with good grip
Waterproof jacket and trousers
Warm layers, hat, gloves, buff
Day pack with water and snacks
Head torch (short daylight hours — bring just in case)
Walking poles (optional, useful on ascents and descents)

Care required on exposed edge paths and rocky descents
Dress appropriately for variable weather conditions
Dogs welcome but must be kept on leads near livestock and cliff edges
